ISSA Rural Area Junior football finalists decided
William Knibb Memorial High School and Glenmuir High School completed the finalists in the ISSA Rural Area Junior football competitions after semi-final wins over Belair High School and Clarendon College, respectively, late last week.
William Knibb beat Belair High 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the Burger King Under-14 game at Glenmuir High on Thursday. Glenmuir got past Clarendon College 4-1 on penalties a day later, after a 1-1 draw in their Mighty Malt Under-16 match.
On Wednesday, Garvey Maceo High School and Cornwall College secured their places in the finals with wins over Cornwall College and Rusea’s High School at St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) Sports Complex.
The champions will be decided this Thursday at the STETHS Sports Complex.
On Thursday, William Knibb took the lead before Belair High equalised, but William Knibb won the shoot-out. Jayden Haughton scored in the 39th minute before Itamar Scott equalised for Belair in the 68th minute of the 70-minute game to force penalties.
On Friday, Glenmuir took the lead through an own goal in the fourth minute before Clarendon College equalised in time added at the end of the first half through Jahiem Senior.
On Wednesday at STETHS, Garvey Maceo secured their place in the Burger King Under-14 final after beating Cornwall 7-6 on sudden-death penalties following a 2-2 draw. Garvey Maceo equalised in time added in the second half to force penalties.
The teams were tied 1-1 at half-time after Kerick Clarke gave Garvey Maceo the lead in the 35th minute, just before the break, but Cornwall equalised a minute into time added through Shani Stephens.
Cornwall took the lead in the 65th minute when Jayden Smith scored after a counterattack, but Garvey Maceo equalised in the 70th minute through Tijuan Peters.
The teams were tied 4-4 after the initial penalties before Garvey Maceo scored their next three in sudden death while Cornwall missed their seventh attempt.
Mekhi Foster, who played in the ISSA All-daCosta vs All-Manning game in January, scored twice as Cornwall beat Rusea’s 4-1 in the Mighty Malt Under-16 match.
Cornwall took the lead when Jared Sargeant scored in the third minute, before Xavier Bourne equalised from close range in the 36th minute.
Kemoy Brown restored Cornwall’s lead just ahead of half-time, before Foster scored in the 56th and 80th minutes to complete the win.
