WHEN Carol Morgan was a teenager, she spent her days caring for a family member living with Alzheimer’s disease. The experience was demanding, emotional and deeply formative. In those quiet moments of daily care, she discovered something that would define her life’s work: A calling to serve people during their most vulnerable seasons with patience, dignity and compassion.

Today, four years into her tenure with the Seprod Group, Nurse Carol Morgan serves as health services supervisor, leading occupational health services across the organisation. Her role sits at the intersection of people and performance, ensuring that the workforce powering one of Jamaica’s largest manufacturing and distribution groups remains healthy, supported and informed.

Morgan develops, monitors and strengthens the company’s health programmes, supervises nursing teams across subsidiaries, counsels employees, consults with external medical professionals and collaborates with the Ministry of Health and Wellness on matters of national importance. Her work ensures that health remains a strategic priority, not an afterthought.

In a manufacturing environment, that priority is critical. Heavy machinery, repetitive strain, chemical exposure and long shifts demand structured health oversight.

“It is extremely essential to have an effective health and wellness programme in all manufacturing environments,” Morgan explained, noting that prevention, ergonomic assessments and mental health support reduce absenteeism, strengthen compliance and improve productivity. Her guiding principle is that a healthy workforce is a reliable workforce.

One initiative that reflects her impact is Seprod’s annual “Breasts Outing”. Recognising hesitation among women over 40 to undergo mammograms, Morgan launched a group-wide education campaign to demystify screening. Since joining the group, she has consistently coordinated online presentations, secured reserved appointments at a private diagnostic centre, arranged transportation from multiple locations, and ensured nursing accompaniment.

What began with uncertainty evolved into a movement. More than 100 women across the group now participate annually. Many confess that before this initiative, they had never done a mammogram, even in their 50s. Today, they know their status, and some have accessed early treatment. Many have gone on to encourage sisters, daughters and friends to get screened. The ripple effect of this initiative continues to extend far beyond the company gates.

Morgan also understands that employees often spend most of their waking hours at work or commuting, leaving little time for preventive care. To address this, she brings healthcare to the workplace. Mini health fairs offer ECGs, dental and optical services, HIV and non-communicable diseases (NCD) screenings. Online health talks, weekly wellness tips, themed monthly campaigns and quarterly wellness hikes are also strategies used to build awareness without disrupting operations.

Her work aligns seamlessly with Seprod’s broader healthcare mission. The Seprod Group, through Facey Pharmaceutical, distributes essential medical and healthcare products across the island. Internally, Carol ensures that the very people supporting that mission are equipped, educated and empowered to maintain their own health.

As a woman in health leadership within manufacturing, Morgan balances operational demands with advocacy. She mentors younger women, fosters open dialogue on personal and professional growth and models integrity in every interaction, as she believes empowerment begins with example.

For Morgan, International Women’s Day celebrates the work and worth of women at every level of society. Her message to women across the group is both affirming and resolute: “You are specially chosen for the role you occupy. Your contribution is priceless. Be resilient. Be strong. Be the example others aspire to follow.”
