Jamaica’s legendary Merritone Sound returns to set Kingston ablaze as the Riddims &
Rum Pirate Merritone Fete officially launches the inaugural Kingston/Port Royal Pirates Week on Thursday, March 12.
After last year’s postponement due to Hurricane Melissa, the celebration comes back stronger than ever at party hot spot Footprints Café, 5 Belmont Road.
From 8:00 pm iconic Merritone selectors Mikey Thompson and Craig Ross will command the decks, delivering a high-energy musical voyage through Jamaica’s golden sounds — from ska and rock steady to reggae, soul, and R&B.
“This celebration honours an essential chapter of Jamaica’s cultural heritage — the sound system tradition — through one of the island’s most enduring and respected names,” said Monte Blake, Merritone director. “We continue to thrill audiences with timeless Jamaican music in a warm, feel-good atmosphere that brings together generations of locals and visitors.”
Now at the helm as managing director, Monique Blake underscored the historic collaboration: “We are proud to partner with the organisers of this inaugural Pirates Week to spotlight Jamaica’s vibrant culture and to share the powerful story of Merritone’s impact on our communities through music.”
Patrons are encouraged to arrive in their pirate regalia for a chance to win exciting prizes, including a Caribbean getaway for two courtesy of InterCaribbean Airways; premium gifts from CastleBlack Rum; rum cocktail specials; and Andre’s Gold Choice 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee.
