Portmore look to return to second in JPL
Portmore United can claim a share of second place in the Jamaica Premier League and cut Montego Bay United’s (MBU) lead to three points with a win over Treasure Beach at the Ferdie Neita Sports Complex, as the second round closes this weekend.
Portmore United are in fourth place on 43 points and a win would see them go ahead of Racing United, who are on 45 points, and join Mount Pleasant FA on 46 points.
Four games are scheduled for today, including defending champions Cavalier against Phoenix Chapelton Maroons, with two more set for Monday, including Waterhouse hosting MBU.
Portmore will try to end a two-game winless run and avenge a 2-0 first-round loss to the St Elizabeth club, which is just above the relegation zone.
Treasure Beach, who are in 11th place on 26 points, are coming off a 4-2 win over Tivoli Gardens and will hope to repeat their first-round result against Portmore.
Cavalier appear to be coming out of a slump and go into their game against Chapelton seeking a fourth-straight win over the Clarendon club.
Cavalier have moved back into the top six on 36 points, four more than Chapelton, who have lost their last two games and have slipped to eighth place.
Arnett Gardens are coming off a 1-1 draw with MBU but are winless in their last four games. They face Molynes United, who have not won in their last eight games.
Molynes, who are in 12th place, three points above the drop zone, won the first-round meeting and will try to add three more points today.
Tivoli Gardens, who are in 10th place, took a point from Mount Pleasant in midweek but have won once in their last 10 games.
Dunbeholden have won their last two games and are three places and two points above Tivoli. They beat Tivoli in the first round and will try to take three more points as they look to stay clear of the bottom half of the table.
