Holland High’s Shanoya Douglas named in Jamaica’s team to World Indoor
KINGSTON, Jamaica –Fresh from her outstanding performances at the Carifta Trials over the weekend at the National Stadium, Holland High’s 18-year-old Shanoya Douglas, has been included in Jamaica’s 32- member team to the World Athletics Indoor Championships to be held in Poland, March 20-22.
Douglas produced a personal best and World Under- 20 leading mark of 11.06 seconds (1.5m/s) to win the Under-20 100m on Friday evening and ran 22.58 seconds (1.7m/s) to win the Under- 20 200m on Sunday.
Douglas, who was named as part of the women’s 4x400m relay pool, would be the first high school girl to be included in a Jamaica team to the World Indoor Championships since 2003 when the Holmwood Technical pair of Sheryl Morgan and Anniesha McLaughlin were named to the team that competed in Birmingham.
The selection committee also named five athletes who are currently competing as part of their respective US college teams.
Ackeem Blake and Carey McLeod who won the bronze medals in the men’s 60m and men’s long jump respectively in Glasgow, Scotland in 2024 were named in the team as well as Jordan Scott, men’s triple jump finalist last year in Nanjing, China.
