Bail extended for Horizon prison guard on smuggling rap
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A correctional officer who is accused of attempting to smuggle four cellphones and two parcels of ganja into the Horizon Adult Remand Centre in Kingston had his bail extended when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
The accused man, Floyd Carnegie, is charged with introducing prohibited articles into a correctional facility.
Carnegie, who appeared without his attorney, told Presiding Judge Alwayne Smith that his lawyer was absent due to payment issues.
“We are asking for some leniency, there is some money owing so I don’t know if that is the reason,” Carnegie said.
Judge Smith stressed that the allegations surrounding the correctional officer are very serious and noted that the consequences of a guilty verdict are very significant.
“Settle your legal affairs, it is very important. These are very serious allegations,” Judge Smith advised.
He is scheduled to reappear in court on June 8, 2026 with his attorney.
