Westmoreland men charged after $720k drug seizure on Mandela Highway
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two men from Westmoreland have been charged with several breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act after police seized cocaine and ganja valued at an estimated $720,000 along Mandela Highway.
The accused are Donald Baugh, a farmer from New Works, and Lenroy Ferguson, a tiler from the Water Works district.
They face charges of possession of cocaine and ganja, dealing in cocaine and ganja, and trafficking cocaine and ganja.
Police reports indicate that around 5:25 pm on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, detectives assigned to the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) intercepted a Toyota motor car travelling along Mandela Highway in St Andrew. The vehicle was driven by Ferguson, with Baugh as a passenger.
During a search of the vehicle, officers reportedly found approximately 1.2 kilograms of cocaine along with an unspecified quantity of loose ganja. The drugs have an estimated combined street value of $720,000.
Acting Director of FNID, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sheldon Coulson, said the police have stepped up monitoring at the country’s borders and across the island as part of efforts to capture drug traffickers.
“We are going after criminal networks who are profiting from the movement of illegal drugs. There is no safe haven for traffickers; we are monitoring our borders and intensifying our operations within our island to apprehend those involved in the illegal trade,” Coulson said.
Baugh and Ferguson are scheduled to appear before the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday, March 13.
