Masicka rebuffs copyright infringement claims as songs removed from YouTube
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Recording artiste Masicka is reiterating that he writes his own music, following the removal of several of his songs from YouTube.
In a statement on Thursday, Masicka acknowledged that several of his songs, including Whites, Rich Sex, Mute, and Scope were removed from YouTube following a copyright claim filed earlier this year.
Emphasising that he and his team take intellectual property and creative ownership seriously, Masicka, whose given name is Javaun Fearon, said he strongly disputes the copyright claims.
“All songs released by Javaun Fearon were written by Javaun Fearon, and released through the proper channels, and we stand firmly behind the legitimacy and ownership of these recordings,” the artiste said in the statement which was shared to multiple social media platforms.
“Our legal and distribution partners are currently addressing the matter and taking the necessary steps to have the content restored,” Masicka noted.
“Situations like this can sometimes occur when inaccurate claims are submitted through automated copyright systems, which may temporarily affect artists and their fans,” he said.
The artiste ended by thanking his fans for their continued support.
