William Knibb chase maiden football title in U-14 clash with Garvey Maceo
Cornwall, Glenmuir square off for U-16 honours
The champions of the ISSA rural area Burger King Under-14 and Mighty Malt Under-16 competitions will be decided when both finals are contested at St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) Sports Complex this afternoon.
Of the four teams involved, William Knibb Memorial High will be seeking their first-ever football title when they take on Garvey Maceo High in the Under-14 decider set to begin at 2:00 pm.
In the Under-16 championship match, former champions Cornwall College, who are scheduled to face Glenmuir High, are returning to the final for the first time since 2013 when they were edged 0-1 in extra time by STETHS at Manchester High.
William Knibb Memorial Under-14s got to the final after beating Belair High 3-1 on penalties after the teams ended 1-1 in regulation time at Glenmuir High last Thursday.
Last Wednesday, Garvey Maceo Under-14s handed Cornwall College their first loss of the season, beating them 7-6 in sudden death penalties after they had played out a 2-2 result in regulation time.
Garvey Maceo had taken the lead but trailed 1-2 before scoring in time added to force the penalty shoot-out.
Cornwall College will go into the Under-16 final with a psychological advantage after beating Glenmuir High 3-0 in Montego Bay during the second round.
Cornwall College had played that game without reliable midfielder Shaheem Bernard, one of five starters on their daCosta Cup team. Bernard has since returned to the starting team.
Glenmuir got into the final after beating Clarendon College 4-1 on penalties after they ended 1-1 in regulation time at Glenmuir High on Friday.
Cornwall, who have conceded three goals all season, earned their place with a 4-1 win over Rusea’s High in the semi-final match at STETHS Sports Complex last Wednesday.
