Fire of unknown origin extensively damaged sections of Outameni Experience building in Trelawny
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — The Trelawny Fire Department is conducting a probe to determine the cause of a fire which extensively damaged sections of the roof and floor of the building that housed the Outameni Experience in a section of Coopers Pen Trelawny, Thursday morning.
Reports are that about 10:35 am on Thursday, firefighters were summoned to the former cultural heritage attraction, where a fire was said to be raging.
Upon their arrival, the team started to put out the blaze which was confined to the shingle roof and the wooden floor.
Firefighters reportedly returned to the location sometime after 8:00 am on Friday to put out smouldering.
The fire department is exploring that the fire may have been caused from the burning of garbage in close proximity to the facility, which is without any electrical connection from the Jamaica Public Service (JPS).
The Outameni Experience was designed to showcase Jamaica’s history and diverse culture, spanning from the Tainos to modern times, through music, dance, and drama. It has remained closed for over a decade.
