Federal take on champions Frazsiers Whip in JWPL
FEDERAL United are set to meet defending champions Frazsiers Whip at Spanish Town Prison Oval as both teams seek to extend their winning starts in the Jamaica Women’s Premier League.
Along with Arnett Gardens FC, WiFi FC and Springers United, Federal and Frazsiers Whip were winners in last week’s opening round of games. They will all be hunting consecutive victories and early ascendancy in the league campaign.
Federal, like Springers, created history by winning their opening games last weekend, beating Real MoBay AFC and Mile Gully United, respectively, by 1-0 margins.
Federal are yet to score a goal against Frazsiers Whip, losing by 0-6 and 0-11 to the league’s top team last season. But Federal will hope they have momentum on their side in this encounter.
Federal will be without three players who were sent off after their 1-0 win over Real MoBay AFC last weekend.
Frazsiers Whip opened their season with a 3-0 win away to Los Perfectos. Their new signing Shanel Spence scored a double on debut and is expected to be on the hunt for more goals.
Arnett Gardens had the biggest win last weekend, hammering Real Mona 5-1 with Shikira Douglas leading the way with two goals. They will play away at the UWI Mona Bowl to UWI Women who ended 1-1 against last season’s finalists Cavalier FC, a team in rebuilding mode with a number of younger players.
Last season’s semi-finalists Arnett Gardens will start favourites to defeat UWI Women based on their execution against Real Mona last weekend.
WiFi United will play away from home for the second-straight week, this time against Cavalier who beat them twice last season. WiFi are coming off a win over Proven Girls and will be hoping for a surprise.
Springers United had to wait until their ninth game last season to get a win. Given their result last week, this afternoon’s clash versus fellow St James-based team Real MoBay AFC at Jarrett Park should be interesting.
Real MoBay AFC will not be able to call on three players who were red-carded for their involvement in a post-game altercation against Federal, and this could tilt the pendulum in Springers United’s favour.
Los Perfectos had beaten Mile Gully on both occasions last season, on their way to the semi-finals, and will hope to rebound from their opening game loss with a win in the Manchester derby.
Real Mona, who returned to the competition after a seven-year break, will hope to get the better of Proven Girls in a match-up of two teams who lost on the opening weekend.
