She’s That Girl poised to dominate Trevor ‘Slicer’ Simpson OD Trophy feature

TODAY’S $1.25-million Trevor “Slicer” Simpson OD Trophy feature race at Caymanas Park is shaping up to be a cakewalk for five-year-old chestnut mare She’s That Girl (Sensational Slam – Palace Gold).

The Steven Todd-trained She’s That Girl is firing on all power-aid cylinders, coming off a commanding win on March 1 over five and a half furlongs (1,100m), the same as today’s distance. She made all the running to win by five and a half lengths in a zippy 1:06.4 (23.1 x 35.0 x 47.2 x 1:00.1), her second run of the season.

Her blazing speed and impeccable pace make her the perfect fit for this event, and her recent training has been top-notch — clocking an impressive 23.2 seconds for two furlongs on March 11.

With Tajay Suckoo back in the saddle, She’s That Girl has the perfect combination of skill and experience to take home the trophy. Her opposition looks tame, and she’s likely to make a move early and coast to victory. Expect She’s That Girl to assert herself from the jump and make it look easy.

The Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward is positioned as the ninth event on the 10-race card with a post time of 4:55 pm, but the first race is at 11:55 am.

While She’s That Girl is the clear favourite, don’t count out Bulletproofcoffee and Huntsman. Bulletproofcoffee, trained by Owen Sharpe, might have been miscast in her last outing over six and a half furlongs (1,300m), finishing in fifth place. With the distance reduced to five and a half furlongs her fine speed should come to the fore, and she could put up a strong challenge.

Huntsman has been flying under the radar but his recent form is good. He was third behind She’s That Girl last time out, running prominently throughout, and looks set for another good effort. If he can replicate that performance he could sneak into the frame.

These two could be the ones to give She’s That Girl a run for her money.

Strike Smart, Miniature Man, Teflon Don, and Unruly Don are the other runners in the seven-horse field.
