UPDATE: Second victim succumbs in Manchester bar attack
MANCHESTER, Jamaica— Police are reporting that a second man has succumbed to gunshot wounds following a shooting incident at a bar in Land Settlement near Royal Flat on Saturday afternoon.
Police identified him as Damien Edwards, 21, otherwise called “Damie”, a resident of Melrose Gardens in Manchester.
Yakieni Shaw, 30, otherwise called “Yankee”, a farmer of Comfort district in Manchester, was also shot dead in the incident.
A police report said about 3:50 pm, Shaw and Edwards were at a bar when a motorcar drove up and a gunman alighted from the car before opening fire on both men, hitting them multiple times. Both men were taken to hospital, where Shaw was pronounced dead on arrival, and Edwards died while being treated.
Land Settlement has been on the police’s radar since the February 8 murder of four-year-old Saniyah O’Brien in a gun attack on the child and her father.
Detectives are yet to establish a definitive motive for the latest incident. However, they are probing several theories.
