Worship encounter at Audience of One
The recent staging of Audience of One – The Worship Encounter, promoted by Cross Links in partnership with Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA), at Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts, was a success, according to organisers.
The event featured performances from the likes of Johmark Wiggan, Prince Saj, Audia Spencer Brown, Jodi-Ann Myers, Da’Levite, Trez Gaye Smith, Alicia Taylor, Rian Davis, Threwth, Laud Dance Ministry, Lubert Levy among others.
Dexter Johnson, of Jamaica Youth For Christ, explained the idea behind the staging of the initiative.
“Actually, it was a vision that God gave to me and the heart that I have towards young people. Seeing them worship, it was out of the many experiences I would have had with them at the various concerts that I do. I wanted to create that atmosphere of continuous worship. It was really an atmosphere to nurture talent,” Johnson told the Jamaica Observer last week.
Johnson shared that the event has grown over the years. This year, he said, the turnout was more than expected.
“The support over the years has been tremendous. Our first staging, in 2023, I was nervous about the turnout because the promotion started late. This year the auditorium was full to capacity and I am just grateful for the support. We even won the Sterling Gospel Music Award for Most Rated Event of the Year, so it really has evolved,” said Johnson.
Majority of the performers have been worship leaders and, according to Johnson, this has been strategic to bring variety to the proceedings.
“The highlight for me over the last few years has been the support… The takeaway has been how much of an experience it has been for the patrons. Every single time it’s always a new experience for somebody,” Johnson reasoned.
