Taylor’s hat-trick secures Arnett Gardens’ win over Racing United
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Teenager Giovanni Taylor scored a hat-trick to lead Arnett Gardens to a 4-0 win over Racing United in their Jamaica Premier League third round game played at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Monday.
Taylor, who was part of the Jamaican national Under-20 team that advanced from the first round of the Concacaf Qualifying earlier this month, fired Arnett Gardens into seventh place with 35 points, on goal-difference over Chapelton Maroons, just five points outside of the top six.
It was Racing United’s third loss of the season, which left them third place, a point behind second-placed Mount Pleasant FA, who have a game in hand, and a point ahead of fourth-placed Portmore United.
Taylor was well placed at the left upright in the eighth minute to give Arnett Gardens the lead and doubled the advantage six minutes later when he scored from close range.
He completed his hat trick three minutes into time added at the end of the first round when he beat goalkeeper Aaron Enill from outside the 18-yard box.
Ranoldo Lawrence, who went into the game in the 67th minute, scored the fourth goal, a curling shot from outside the 18-yard area on the right side, flying into the far corner of the goal.
