MBU Youth halt Faulkland’s perfect start in Sandals Major League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay United Youth ended Faulkland FC’s perfect win record in the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League after clipping the former champions 1-0 in the Zone A game at Jarrett Park on Monday.
Chrisano Lawrence converted a second-half penalty for MBU Youth to win back-to-back games after losing their opening game to Reggae Youths.
Lawrence was adjudged to have been fouled just inside the 18-yard box. He got up to convert the spot kick and end Faulkland’s flawless start to the campaign.
The win kept MBU Youth in third place in Zone A on six points from three games.
Also on Monday, Reggae Youths defeated Real MoBay AFC 3-1 at UDC field to stay in second place in Zone A.
Denardo Kerr, Sebastian Robinson and Kemar Reid scored for last season’s finalists as they overcame Real MoBay AFC who stay stuck on five points.
Davoie Douglas scored Real MoBay AFC’s consolation goal.
Meanwhile on Saturday, 10-man Montego Bay Boys Club defeated Cambridge United 4-2 at UDC Field
Boys Club led Cambridge 2-0 after 39 minutes with goals from Marvin Sangster and Matthew Thorpe, before Kenton Lewis pulled a goal back for Cambridge in the 43rd minute.
Kenou Gram restored Boys Club’s two-goal lead in the 44th minute. A minute later, his teammate Kemario Murdock was sent off.
Aleko Miller scored a fourth goal for Boys Club in the 70th minute before Anthony McLeod got Cambridge’s second in the 76th.
Granville United edged Wadada FC 2-1 at Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College. Ajani Clarke scored a brace for Granville, in the 25th and 75th minutes, while David Gordon gave Wadada hope with an 87th-minute goal.
On Sunday at Jarrett Park, Heights FC were held 1-1 by MoBay City FC, taking the lead in the 14th minute through the veteran Allan Ottey. Nathaniel Foster levelled for MoBay City in the 45th minute.
In the first game of the double-header Bogue FC and Lilliput Rovers ended 0-0.
