Racing United reclaim second place in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Racing United reclaimed second place in the Jamaica Premier League on Thursday after beating Chapelton Maroons 3-0 in their third-round game played at Ferdie Neita Park.
Racing United rebounded from a big 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Arnett Gardens on Monday and improved to 51 points, two more than third-placed Mount Pleasant FA, who have two games in hand.
Arnett Gardens blanked Tivoli Gardens 2-0 in their game played at the Edward Seaga Complex, while Harbour View edged closer to safety with a 3-0 win over Spanish Town Police FC in the battle of cellar dwellers.
Racing United extended their record of never losing to Chapelton Maroons and were given the lead by Giovanni Cunningham in the 21st minute, but had to wait until the final 20 minutes to put away the game.
Substitutes Kadean Young scored Racing United’s second goal in the 71st minute, and Damion Herrera added the third in the 82nd minute.
Arnett Gardens took over seventh place with their win and Chapelton’s loss, moving to 38 points after second-half goals from Joel Jones in the 57th minute and Jamone Shepherd in the 69th minute gave them back-to-back wins over Tivoli Gardens.
Harbour View scored their first win in six games, avenging a 1-0 loss to Spanish Town Police FC in the second-round with Rohan Brown scoring a brace, with goals in the 54th and 78th minutes before the league’s top scorer Trayvone Reid got his 15th goal in the 81st minute.
