TAJ begins major upgrade of tax administration system
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) has commenced a major upgrade of its Revenue Administration Information System (RAIS), aimed at modernising the country’s tax administration and improving service delivery to taxpayers.
In a release, TAJ said the project, launched on Thursday, March 12, 2026, will upgrade its existing RAIS platform GENTAX version 10, which was implemented in 2014, to the latest CORE 26 version in partnership with FAST Enterprises.
The RAIS CORE 26 Upgrade Project is scheduled for completion in March 2027 and is expected to enhance TAJ’s digital infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and strengthen revenue administration. The upgraded system will provide a more secure and user-friendly platform, with faster processing and improved data management.
Commissioner General Ainsley Powell highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating: “The upgrade will improve on our interactions with our valued customers and the product will assist us on our continued journey to be a world-class Tax Administration.”
The new system will introduce several enhanced features, including customer flow management for queuing and appointments, a customer relationship management module, improved compliance tools, enhanced reporting and analytics, strengthened security features, an e-services assistant and announcements functionality.
RAIS has played a central role in TAJ’s operations over the past decade, supporting the expansion of digital services and enabling 100 per cent online filing of tax returns. The system has also facilitated services such as the online renewal of motor vehicle registration for private vehicles, improving accessibility for taxpayers.
TAJ said the upgrade will be implemented in a manner designed to ensure minimal disruption to operations, with continued engagement of stakeholders and updates to taxpayers throughout the process.
