Giving Thanks the choice in Hotline Stakes
The 34th running of the $1.2-million Hotline Stakes, a Restricted Allowance II contest, is set to kick ‘Road to the Triple Crown’ for native-bred three-year-old fillies tomorrow. The 6-furlong (1,200m) event has attracted a small but talented field of six runners.
Below, the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at each runner and their chances of winning.
1. GIVING THANKS: (3 b f by Bern Identity – Lighting Lily) – An impressive winner of over 10 lengths on January 17 over six furlongs. She’s facing Taylor Made, who defeated her on debut, but Giving Thanks is expected to turn the tables and beat the rest of the field as well.
2. MINNEHAHA: (3 b f by Savoy Stomp – Red Gold) – Released the maiden tag on February 18, romping home by 6 lengths over 5 furlongs (1,000m) round. Minnehaha should make her presence felt throughout the race.
3. DREAM CATCHER: (3 b f by Bern Identity – Double Jeopardy ) – Won by 5 ¾ lengths on debut over 5 furlongs straight in 1:00.4. Dream Catcher has worked fairly well coming into this race and should run well without necessarily winning.
4. TAYLOR MADE: (3 gr f by Aveenu Malcainu – Another Fury) – Won on debut but followed up with a disappointing effort. She has speed and pace, and is likely to make a brave bid.
5. LEXI LOU: (3 b f by Aveenu Malcainu – Herroyalhighness) – Won last time out but isn’t expected to repeat that performance.
6. MIDNIGHT TRAVELLER: (3 ch f by Aveenu Malcainu – Esperanza) – Is likely to struggle in this race.
