Dominoes continue to educate and entertain Jamaican students
THE National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB) remains committed to promoting the popular tile game in schools across Jamaica, according to Humbert Davis, president of the organisation.
Speaking about the association’s ongoing programmes, Davis said that his association’s efforts are paying off.
“Schools across the island continue to benefit from our initiatives, and we’re seeing a growing interest in dominoes among young people,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
One recent example is Penwood High, which hosted a mathematics day that featured dominoes as one of its activities. The event was a huge success, with students enthusiastically participating in domino games.
Davis praised the school for recognising the value of dominoes in promoting numeracy and critical thinking skills.
“Penwood High is a great example of how schools can incorporate dominoes into their curriculum to engage students and make learning fun,” he said.
The NADB has been actively promoting dominoes in schools and communities across Jamaica with the aim of increasing participation and developing a new generation of players. Davis believes the game’s popularity stems from its ability to bring people together and foster a sense of community.
“Dominoes is more than just a game — it’s a social activity that encourages interaction, strategy, and healthy competition. We’re proud to be introducing it to young people and watching them develop their skills and confidence.
The benefits of playing dominoes are numerous, and Davis is eager to see more schools and communities get on board.
“Dominoes helps with math skills, problem-solving, and critical thinking. It’s also a great way to build social skills and make new friends,” he said.
As the NADB continues to promote dominoes in Jamaica, Davis is optimistic about the future of the game.
“We’re seeing a real interest in dominoes among young people and we’re committed to nurturing that interest and developing the next generation of players,” Davis said.
