Frazsiers Whip, Springers put perfect records on the line in JWPL
JAMAICA Women’s Premier League (JWPL) defending champions Frazsiers Whip and Springers United are to clash in a meeting of Zone B leaders in the second game of a double-header at Excelsior High this afternoon. Kick-off is set for 3:00 pm.
Frazsiers Whip, Springers and Zone A leaders Arnett Gardens have won their first two games.
Springers, who are taking orders from Paul “Tegat” Davis this season, are off to a historic start, winning their first two games for the first time. But they will face their toughest test of the season.
The St James-based team was beaten by a 22-0 aggregate by Frazsiers Whip over two games last season.
Despite not getting off to as fast a start as they did last season when they scored 13 goals in their first two games, Frazsiers Whip are still the top team in the league, and will be expected to take the game to the opposition.
Christine Salmon and Shanel Spence have both scored braces in back-to-back games and are expected to lead the Frazsiers Whip team.
Four different players have scored for Springers United, who are the only team yet to concede a goal.
Arnett Gardens are scheduled to play away to WiFi United in the second game of a double-header at Carder Park. They defeated WiFi two times last season, and
have scored eight goals already, the most by any team this season, and so are hoping Sade Berry and Shikira Douglas will add to the two goals each they have scored so far.
WiFi United had opened the season with a big win over Proven Girls and will hope to rebound from a loss to Cavalier FC last week.
Unbeaten Cavalier are second in Zone A with four points, and will hope to extend their winning run against Proven Girls, a team they beat twice last year, including an 11-1 triumph.
Proven Girls have scored just once and have picked up one point. They could be made to work hard if they are to get anything from the game.
Los Perfectos FC and Federal United are both on three points from one win and a loss. But Los Perfectos are coming off a victory and will be hoping to extend their winning run against a team they beat twice last season on their way to the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, Mile Gully FC and Real MoBay AFC are both hoping to end losing skids when they meet at Mile Gully Community Centre, a venue where the St James-based team won last year.
Real MoBay are expected to be back to their full complement of players with the return of three players who had to sit out last week’s loss to Springers after they were shown red cards against Federal United on the competition’s opening weekend.
