Khadija Shaw hits fastest WSL hat-trick as Manchester City thrash Tottenham
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Manchester City tightened their grip on the Women’s Super League (WSL) title with a dominant victory over Tottenham at the Joie Stadium, thanks to a record-breaking performance from Jamaica’s Khadija “Bunny” Shaw.
According to BBC Sport, Shaw scored the fastest hat-trick in WSL history, finding the net three times in just 12 minutes to take her tally to 18 goals in 18 league matches this season.
All three of her goals came from headers, with Tottenham unable to cope with City’s aerial threat and set-pieces. The visitors briefly levelled when Olivia Holdt slipped in behind the defence early in the first half, cancelling out Shaw’s opener, but parity lasted only three minutes before the Jamaica international restored City’s lead.
City continued to dominate, with Kerolin finishing from Lauren Hemp’s pull-back, before an own goal from Amanda Nilden deflecting Vivianne Miedema’s header made it five before the break.
Tottenham, who suffered back-to-back league defeats for the first time this season, were unable to respond after the interval as City eased to victory. With the title now firmly in sight, three wins from their final four matches would be enough to secure the championship.
