Lumber fight leads to assault case headed for trial
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A dispute over missing lumber has led to a June 25 trial date for Patricia Shereves who now faces charges of assault occasioning bodily harm and assault at common law.
The allegations stem from an incident in November 2025. Court reports indicate that the complainant went to his workplace — premises where Shereves also resides –- to retrieve lumber left there after a hurricane. However, upon arrival, he reportedly discovered the materials were no longer there.
When he contacted Sherevesnthe situation allegedly ignited. She is said to have responded with a stream of expletives and instructed the complainant to leave.
What followed was a sharp escalation. Shereves allegedly rushed toward the complainant with a knife, sparking a confrontation that ended with him falling and sustaining injuries to his back.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Shereves’ arrest and formal charges.
Under caution, she is alleged to have said, “Offica, mi and him a fight and di man tek out him gun and crank it up after mi.”
During an earlier court appearance her attorney Michael Hemmings had indicated that the complainant is also before the Gun Court on separate charges. He further noted that civil proceedings between both parties are currently underway.
Shereves’ trial date was set when her matter was called up before Judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday. She was granted an extension of bail ahead of the upcoming proceedings.
