KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Island Traffic Authority (ITA) is reporting that 52 road users have been killed in 45 fatal crashes since the start of the year.

This represents a 34 per cent decrease in fatalities when compared to the corresponding period in 2025 and a 38 per cent reduction in fatal crashes over the same period.

According to the latest daily crash statistics released by the ITA on Friday, pedestrians so far account for 14 or 27 per cent of all fatalities since the start of the year; private motor vehicle passengers account for 13 or 25 per cent; motorcyclists account for 11 or 21 per cent; private motor vehicle drivers account for nine or 17 per cent; and pedalcyclists account for four or eight per cent.

Meanwhile, the group of road users deemed most vulnerable – pedestrians, pedalcyclists, motorcyclists and pillion passengers – account for 56 per cent of all fatalities combined since the start of the year.

Overall, passengers account for 27 per cent of the recorded deaths.

Males and females account for 77 per cent and 23 per cent respectively, of fatalities since the start of the year.
