Cavalier, Waterhouse meet in JPL play-off race

DEFENDING champions Cavalier and Waterhouse will meet at Waterhouse Stadium today in a third-round game as the race for play-off spots in the Jamaica Premier League continues.

One point separates fifth-placed Waterhouse on 43 points and Cavalier on 42 points, with a game in hand.

Also today, leaders Montego Bay United (MBU) will seek to complete a sweep against Phoenix Chapelton Maroons, second-placed Racing United will look for their first win against Tivoli Gardens this season, and Molynes United will try to end an 11-game winless run.

On Monday, Mount Pleasant FA will host Portmore United in the second game of a double-header at Drax Hall, with one point separating the teams.

Cavalier have won their last four games while Waterhouse have lost once in their last 10. Four of their last seven meetings ended in draws.

Apart from a 4-0 loss to MBU, Waterhouse have conceded two goals in their last 10 games. Head Coach Javier Ainstein said the team needs to score more goals.

Cavalier have scored five goals in their four-game winning run and conceded once. Chris Ainsworth and Chad James will be key for them.

Colorado Murray returned last week with a goal, and Waterhouse will also look to Mario Simms and Neron Barrow in attack.

MBU have scored eight goals in their last two games but were taken close by Dunbeholden, winning 4-3 in midweek. Malachi Sterling has scored in back-to-back games.

Chapelton have lost four of their last five games and scored two goals in that period.

Racing will aim to hold their place in the top two and need a win against Tivoli Gardens who have one win in their last nine games. Both meetings between the teams this season ended 0-0. Racing beat Chapelton 3-0 last week.

Dunbeholden scored three goals against MBU on Wednesday and face Molynes, who are without a win in their last 11 games and are one point above the relegation zone. Shakeem Powell scored twice against MBU and will lead Dunbeholden’s attack.
