World Indoors: Simmonds finishes 5th in 60m hurdles

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Megan Simmonds finished fifth in her first World Athletics Indoor Championships despite equalling her personal best of 7.82 seconds on Sunday’s final day at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena in Toruń, Poland.

Simmonds appeared to react to the starting gun late and failed to catch a quality field, hitting the third barrier as well.

Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas won her third straight World Indoor gold medal, equalling her own world record of 7.65 seconds in the process.

Nadine Vasser of the Netherlands took the silver medal with a season’s best 7.73 seconds, while Pia Skrzyszowska ran a Polish record of 7.73 seconds for the bronze medal.
