Kingston Freeport Terminal extends operating hours due to fire-related incident
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) says it will be extending its operation hours following a disruption in operation at the location due to a fire-related incident on Monday.
According to KFTL, in a media release, a straddle carrier operating within the terminal experienced a fire-related incident. It said no employee was harmed during the incident.
“We are pleased to report that the equipment operator was not harmed. The situation was managed swiftly and professionally by our on-site teams, who responded in accordance with established safety protocols and training,” said KFTL. “The equipment’s onboard fire suppression system functioned as designed, helping to contain and delay the spread of the fire until emergency services arrived.”
KFTL said the root cause of the incident has not yet been determined.
“A thorough and professional investigation is underway to establish the cause and identify any necessary preventive measures. The incident resulted in temporary operational disruption and the terminal will extend operating hours to recover lost time and maintain service commitments to our customers,” the company said.
KFTL also extended appreciation to the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) for its rapid response and effective support in bringing the situation fully under control.
