Miss Global International returns to Jamaica after 3 years
The Miss Global International beauty pageant, formerly known as the Miss Commonwealth pageant, is returning to Jamaica after three years.
According to franchise holder and businessman Lachu Ramchandani, the staging of the pageant in September this year, will help to revive the tourism sector.
“I never planned to bring anymore shows to Jamaica but because of Hurricane Melissa and because of the hotels that have been suffering, at least 50 per cent of the five star hotels are closed, and because of that I want to help build up back the economy by bringing tourists to Jamaica. And this is why Grand Palladium came on board to sponsor. We’re bringing in International guests and media,” Ramchandani told Observer Online on Monday.
He said that the target is to have the participation of between 35-40 delegates in the pageant.
“So far we have 10 delegates who have been chosen to represent their countries including the Jamaican delegate,” Ramchandani disclosed.
The other countries whose delegates have already been chosen are St Kitts, Martinique, South Africa, Peru, Holland, Poland, Antigua and Barbuda, Hungary and France.
Since 2004, the pageant was held in Jamaica until it moved to England in 2008. It has since been held in Trinidad and Tobago, Santo Domingo and Peru.
The pageant was held in Cayman in 2024 and 2025.
Said Ramchandani, “Our theme is Uniting the World Through Beauty and Tourism. The winner has to be overall intelligent, bright, beautiful and must be able to represent the global brand with pride and dignity.”
Sabrina Johnson is Jamaica’s representative in the 2026 Miss Global International pageant.
