#Champs2026: Calabar’s Edwards leaps into Class 2 long jump final with single jump

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Calabar High’s Talshawn Edwards, Cornwall College’s Zhi-Hew Whitter and Kingston College’s Odane Noble all needed only one jump to qualify for Wednesday’s final of the Class 2 boys long jump at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

Edwards led the qualifying with a wind-aided 6.90m (2.1m/s) while Hewitt, the COCAA Western Champs gold medallist, jumped 6.68m (0.5m/s) to take his place.

Noble’s 6.55m was also over the automatic qualifying mark of 6.50m, but was only good for fourth after St Jago High’s Winaldo Faulknor jumped 6.58m (0.9m/s) on his third attempt.

Shamar Shaw of Calabar High in 6.47m (1.1m/s), Omari Gordon of Wolmer’s Boys in 6.44m (-0.4m/s) as well as Akeem Freeman of Manchester High and Leonardo Green of St Jago High, both with 6.36m, all advanced as well.
