#Champs2026: Clarendon College’s Lampart seeks redemption in shot put
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Clarendon College’s Marla-Kay Lampart will be seeking redemption for missing out on a medal in the Class 1 girls’ shot put last year after she led the qualification with 13.66m on Wednesday’s second day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Lampart, who was a medal favourite, placed a disappointing fifth at Champs 2025 but rebounded a few weeks later to break the national junior record with 17.44m at the Carifta Games.
On Wednesday, Lampart, who had a season’s best 14.52m to win at Central Champs, needed two throws to get the automatic qualifying mark for the final.
Bethany Thomas of Wolmer’s Girls was next with 13.65m while Edwin Allen High’s Dionjah Shaw qualified for a third final after she threw 13.45m.
Also advancing were Vere Technical’s Gabriel Merchant, Jada Francis of Immaculate Conception, Abigail Bennett of Merl Grove and Rehanna Biggs of St Jago.
