#Champs2026: Fierce competition expected in girls Class 2 discus

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Friday’s final of the girls Class 2 discus throw event is promising excitement with at least four athletes with a legitimate shot at the podium, led by defending champion Brandane Malcolm of Hydel High School.

Malcolm threw 43.71m on her second attempt after opening with a foul, getting over the automatic qualifying mark of 42.00m, trailing only Excelsior High’s Class 3 champion last year, Zoeyann Plummer, who threw 44.13m also on her second attempt.

Clarendon College’s Jamelia Young, who won the shot put gold medal, qualified with 43.58m, while St Elizabeth Technical’s Davieka Lewis needed just one throw, 42.88m to get into the final.
