#Champs2026: Three 100m champions on course for girls’ sprint doubles
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Holland High’s Shanoya Douglas is one of three 100m champions still on course for their respective sprint double after the first round of the 200m at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships on Thursday.
Douglas, along with Wolmer’s Girls Class 2 champion Natrece East and Excelsior High’s Class 4 champion Briana Gray, all advanced to the semi-finals of the event at the National Stadium.
Less than 18 hours after running a personal best 10.98 seconds to win the Class 1 100m on Wednesday, Douglas led the qualifying for the 200m semi-finals, running 24.21 seconds (-0.8m/s).
Edwin Allen High’s Alexxe Henry, the silver medallist in the 100m, also advanced with 24.90 seconds.
East ran 24.38 seconds (0.7m/s) to book her spot in the semi-finals and was joined by silver medallist Shannia Campbell of St Jago, who ran 24.53 seconds (-1.0m/s) and bronze medallist Giana Murray of Mt Alvernia High, who ran 24.78 seconds (0.4m/s).
Gray ran 25.66 seconds (-1.1m/s) to win her Class 4 heat while Vere Technical’s Omeika Shepherd led the qualifying with 25.30 seconds (-0.6m/s), Hydel High’s Reneka Reid qualified with 25.49 seconds (-1.8m/s) and Edwin Allen’s Niesha Campbell— 25.52 seconds.
Ferncourt High’s Rihanna Scott, the Class 3 100m silver medallist, advanced with 24.87 seconds (-0.8m/s), Tyecia McDonald of Hydel High ran 24.85 seconds (-1.8m/s), Knox College’s Tawaina Marston ran 24.88 seconds (-2.8m/s), while the Edwin Allen pair of Andriana Pine—24.96 seconds (-1.6m/s) and Tashana Godfrey— 25.11 (-2.2m/s), as well as Veneisha Pottinger of Mt Alvernia— 25.20 seconds (-1.6m/s) are all through.
