CAR Jamaica pops up
There will be more choice in the local automotive market as new dealership CAR Jamaica gave an advanced public preview of the brands they will represent at their Café Blue New Kingston pop-up event, held on Saturday, March 14.
“CAR Jamaica is introducing two brands. I’m not saying new, because they’re not new brands. They both have a long-standing tradition worldwide. The first is KGM, KGM Mobility out of Korea, formerly known as SsangYong,” Mellisa Bailey, general manager, CAR Jamaica, told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
Korean marque SsangYong, established in 1954, was acquired in 2022 by KG Group. The company’s models are being sold under the KGM branding in certain markets.
CAR Jamaica will carry three KGM vehicles, starting with the Torres, Actyon, and Rexton. All three are sport utility vehicles. The Torres and Actyon are five-seaters. The Rexton is a seven-seater.
Bailey added that each comes with a six-year warranty and five years of service.
“The other brand is Renault, out of France, and that’s our fun, sporty, budget-friendly, side of things,” she said.
There will also be three Renault models — the Kwid, Kiger, and Triber. The first two are small sport utility vehicles, and the latter is a small MPV.
They are available with a five-year warranty.
Bailey hopes to set CAR Jamaica apart by not only providing price-competitive products, but also a focus on the customer experience.
“Typically, in Jamaica, one of the common things we hear is we buy the car, once you take my money, that’s it. CAR Jamaica plans to extend its customer-obsessed past the buying experience into the after-sales experience. For example, when you come in for service, you’ll be given a loaner car,” she shared.
The brand will officially launch in April 2026 as they await the completion of their new showroom on Lady Musgrave Road.
