Taylor Made impressive in Hotline Stakes
THE Hotline Stakes, the first major prep race for the three-year-old Classics, went down on Saturday, March 21, 2026. The $1.2-million event for non-winners of two went over six furlongs (1,200m).
Six fillies duked it out in this early test of form and potential. Named after one of Caymanas Park’s finest fillies, the Hotline offers a sneak peek at what’s to come.
Here’s the Jamaica’s Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide’s rundown of the results, in order of finish.
FIRST – TAYLOR MADE: Taylor Made bounced back impressively from a rough outing, taking the lead early and cruising to a 4¼-length win in 1:14.2. She’s a top contender among three-year-old fillies but her best distance might be the sprints or middle distances, so a mile might be pushing it. Either way, this was a big step forward for the Jason DaCosta-trained filly. Next up, the Thornbird Consort Stakes over seven furlongs (1,400m) will be a good test of her stamina and class.
SECOND – DREAM CATCHER: Dream Catcher, trained by Jason DaCosta, made her second career start and showed promise despite not challenging her stablemate
Taylor Made. This was her first time negotiating the turn, and she looked good, suggesting she’s got more to give. With more racing experience she could become a stronger contender.
THIRD – GIVING THANKS: Giving Thanks had a disappointing run in the Hotline Stakes, failing to live up to expectations after a 10-length win previously. Her slow start from the gates was a major issue and she weakened in the final stretch, finishing below potential. Gate issues seem to be a recurring problem for her, and addressing this will be crucial if she’s to reach her full potential.
FOURTH – MINNIEHAHA: Minniehaha’s Hotline Stakes outing was underwhelming as she raced off the pace and lacked a strong finish. She’ll need to step up her pace and finishing strength to compete with this level of opposition. Minniehaha did show promise with a win on her second start over five furlongs in February.
FIFTH – MIDNIGHT TRAVELLER: Midnight Traveller’s performance in the Hotline Stakes was lacklustre, racing at the rear and only managing to pass one rival in the straight. This suggests she’s got a lot of work to do before becoming a serious contender in top-level races. She was the longest shot in the field at 36-1.
SIXTH – LEXI LOU: Lexi Lou’s performance in the Hot Line Stakes was underwhelming, failing to show any signs of being a contender among her peers. She was uncompetitive throughout, raising doubts about her ability to progress against higher-quality fillies. This has left questions about her future prospects, with her previous win seemingly a one-off effort.
CONCLUSION: The Hot Line Stakes gave us a glimpse of the three-year-old fillies’ potential. Taylor Made’s win was convincing — she’s a top contender. Dream Catcher’s showing was promising, while Giving Thanks has talent but needs to sort out her gate issues. Minniehaha, Midnight Traveller, and Lexi Lou need to step up if they want to be in the mix. The Thornbird Stakes will be the next big test.
