#Champs2026: Edwin Allen’s James smashes record in javelin master class
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Edwin Allen High’s Addison James put on a master class of javelin throwing to shatter the boys open record on Saturday at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Championships with 70.30m, the seventh best in the world for Under-20 boys.
James, who also extended his Dominican Under-20 record, broke the meet record twice, with his first two throws, with 69.59m in the first round and then producing the first ever throw over 70.00m by a schoolboy in Jamaica in the second round.
The athlete, who won the silver medal behind Calabar’s Tarique Daley, who had won with 65.11m, had another throw over the old record with 66.79m in the fourth round.
Kingston College’s Kimari Smith was second with 54.25m, and Jamaica College’s Camron Williams was third with 50.66m.
Last year’s winner, Daley of Calabar, retired after one throw in the final, a 41.81m effort.
