#Champs2026: Shanoya Douglas breaks national Under-20 200m record
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Shanoya Douglas further established herself among some of the very best Jamaican junior female sprinters of all time after she broke the national Under-20 200m record with a magnificent 22.36 seconds (-1.6m/s) to win the Class 1 gold medal at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletic Championships.
Cheered on by a packed grandstand at the National Stadium, the Holland High student ran away from the field to break the national and meet record while extending her World Under-20 leading and previous personal best 22.58 seconds set two weeks ago at the Carifta Trials at the same venue.
She broke the national record of 22.50 seconds set by Briana Williams when she won the World Under-20 sprint double in Finland in 2018.
The previous meet record of 22.53 seconds was set in 2022 by Brianna Lyston in 2022.
Douglas, the World Under-20 200m bronze medallist from Lima, Peru in 2024, had run a personal best 10.98 seconds to win the 100m on Wednesday, 10th best all time and her 200m time is also tied for 10th best all time.
Edwin Allen’s Alexxe Henry was second, well behind in 23.63 seconds, and her teammate Shanique Cassanova was third in 24.17 seconds.
