Wall Street Trader poised to cash in on Sprint Trophy opportunity at Caymanas Park
WALL Street Trader — the seven-year-old, American-bred, dark bay/brown gelding — will be looking to prove his class and talent in this afternoon’s $1.4-million Gregory Park Sprint Trophy at Caymanas Park.
With one win from four starts this season, he’s expected to shine in the five-furlong (1,000m) round Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward.
Wall Street Trader finished a strong third — four lengths behind Funcaandun and Supernatural Power — at seven furlongs (1,400m) on March 14. With those two not competing Wall Street Trader got a great shot at winning. Christopher Mamdeen remains in the saddle, toting top weight of 57.0kgs (126 lb).
All the other six runners, except Teflon Don, have a case to win as Florindia, California Crown, Money Market, Zulu Warrior, and She’s That Girl could all cause an upset.
The contest is positioned as the eighth event on the 10-race card with a post time of 4:20 pm. First race is at 11:45 am.
Florindia’s impressive win over seven furlongs on February 28 in 1:25.4 has earned her a spot in this event. A cutback in distance to five furlongs round should suit her every well; and although she’s stepping up in class she’s definitely a horse to watch.
California Crown is a capable horse who has speed and should use this to great effect in this Sprint Trophy. With a strong pedigree,
California Crown is a strong contender and could be the dark horse in the field.
Money Market is a very fit and consistent runner and should continue to earn his keep in this event. While he might not be the flashiest horse, his reliability could pay off.
Zulu Warrior has shown glimpses of promise with one win from four starts this season. He’s not expected to win but could make a brave bid and cause some upset.
She’s That Girl is coming off two consecutive wins in the class below and will need to improve significantly to challenge the top horses in this event. However she has natural speed, and that could play to her advantage here.
Meanwhile, Teflon Don is a previous winner and is looking to repeat his success, but he’s not expected to quite hit the mark this time around.
