NPG Insurance Brokers Ltd marks 45 years of growth, impact
KINGSTON, Jamaica — As National Property & General (NPG) Insurance Brokers Limited celebrates its 45th anniversary, General Manager Tracy-Ann July says the brokerage remains committed to exponential growth to satisfy its clients.
Founded in 1981 by Peter Edward Thomas on Harbour Street in downtown Kingston, NPG Insurance Brokers can now be found in several towns across the island, including May Pen, Mandeville, Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Port Maria, Morant Bay, and its newest location in Santa Cruz.
“Reaching the 45-year milestone represents a significant achievement and reflects the company’s stability, resilience and dedication to excellence. It demonstrates the strength of the foundation laid by the founder and the continued commitment of the team to maintaining high standards in the insurance brokerage industry,” July said.
The company was born out of Thomas’ passion for the insurance industry and his desire to build a strong, independent business for his family and community.
Having received overseas training and industry experience, he recognised the opportunity to provide professional brokerage services that would connect clients with the best insurance solutions available in the market. He previously studied at Leeds University in the United Kingdom and completed the Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) examinations.
Thomas passed away in February 2021.
Today, NPG hosts 41 team members across the island with July at the helm. She has continued the company’s legacy and positioned it for further development. Over the last four decades, the company has achieved multiple milestones.
“The company transitioned from an agency to a brokerage, which allowed greater independence in serving clients. It has also successfully written and managed major insurance portfolios, including participation in large corporate tenders,” July said. “NPG Insurance Brokers has also established multiple branches across Jamaica, strengthening national presence and accessibility, and we have built strong relationships with local and international insurers.”
The brokerage writes all classes of general insurance. These include, but are not limited to, motor, property, liability, marine, commercial and personal.
As brokers, the company works with all major general insurance companies in Jamaica as well as international markets such as Lloyd’s of London, ensuring clients receive the best coverage options available.
“From small family-run businesses to major commercial operations, NPG Insurance Brokers has consistently provided tailored insurance solutions designed to meet the unique needs of each client. The company remains committed to ensuring that every client—regardless of size—receives professional guidance, reliable coverage and exceptional service,” July continued.
Beyond its responsibility to clients and corporate partners, the company has also prioritised educational and occupational opportunities, especially among the younger generations.
“We have made meaningful contributions to the community by employing summer students and providing opportunities for young individuals to gain work experience in the insurance industry. In some cases, the company has also supported students by assisting with educational expenses, demonstrating its commitment to youth development and community support,” the general manager said.
With technological advancements on the rise, NPG recently introduced e-commerce solutions, enabling clients to access certain insurance services online.
As the company looks ahead, there are plans to further modernise its framework for efficiency.
“Over the next decade, we will continue expanding and strengthening our service offerings, embrace technology and digital solutions, as well as maintain our commitment to excellent customer service. We will also grow our presence in the Jamaican insurance market while continuing to serve communities across the island,” July added.
