‘Can’t thank you enough, Cornwall Regional Hospital’
The much-berated Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, St James, has come in for some heartfelt praise from a grateful patient, Anthony Jackson, who underwent nearly two months of radiation therapy at the institution.
“In a time when much of the public discourse highlights negative aspects, I am proud to publicly acknowledge the positive and commendable service I personally received at this institution,” said Jackson in a letter to the Jamaica Observer.
Jackson said his seven-week radiation therapy journey at the Cornwall Regional Hospital began on January 19, 2026, and concluded on March 16, 2026, marking a significant chapter in his life.
“From registration to my final treatment, I experienced a level of care and professionalism that far exceeded expectations.
Despite a temporary setback when the machine broke down for four working days, starting Thursday, February 12, 2026, services resumed smoothly after the Ash Wednesday break, and continued on Thursday, February 19, 2026,” he noted.
He said the Radiation Department, led by radiation oncologist Dr Praveen Kumar Sharma and Candeies Campbell, demonstrated outstanding leadership and teamwork throughout his treatment.
“My interactions with staff — from the welcoming registration team to the caring nurses, including a compassionate Cuban nurse and the ever-gracious Eulalee Edgar — made each visit reassuring.
“I also extend sincere appreciation to Anthony Scott, the physicist and his team, as well as Dr Omar Bullock, who monitored my progress weekly with diligence and care.
Special thanks go to Mr Reid for his assistance in ensuring I received my medication without difficulty.
“The radiation therapists — Mrs Candeies Campbell, Mr Rajesh Singh, Ms Alesha Smith, Mr Keno Richards, Mr Godfrey Denton, and Mrs Judith Whyte — provided exceptional care, patience, and encouragement that made a challenging journey much easier.
“Their kindness, dedication, and the strong camaraderie within the department, even under stressful conditions, created a supportive and uplifting environment that will forever remain embedded in my thoughts,” said an obviously satisfied Jackson.
