HerFlow recognises 20 women, honours hurricane ‘Sheroes’ at awards ceremony
THE HerFlow Foundation’s ‘Celebrate Her’ awards, held on March 29 at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel, saw guests dressed in yellow to mark Endometriosis Awareness Month. The event also sought to honour 20 Jamaican women for their service to communities across the island.
Staged to recognise “Unsung Sheroes”, the initiative spotlighted women who have dedicated their lives to uplifting others, often without recognition. This year’s staging carried added significance in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa last October, with 10 women recognised for their immediate response to the crisis, alongside 10 other recipients of the newly introduced Legacy of Care Award.
The Legacy of Care Award, delivered in partnership with the Canadian High Commission, celebrates women whose long-standing commitment to service has had a sustained impact on their communities. Among the honourees were entertainer Michelle “D’Angel” Downer; co-founder and executive director of Eve for Life, Joy Crawford; and scholar-activist Dr Janice Johnson Dias, each recognised for her work in supporting vulnerable groups and rebuilding communities.
This year also marked the first collaboration with Malta, whose ‘The Good You Give’ campaign aligns with the initiative’s focus on recognising everyday acts of care and community building.
Through Celebrate Her, the HerFlow Foundation continues to shine a light on women whose leadership, resilience, and dedication remain the backbone of families, communities, and the nation at large.
