Any number can play in Linval McFarlane Trophy feature

The running of the $1.25-million Linval McFarlane Trophy, a three-year-old and upward Overnight Allowance contest going 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m), is the feature race on tomorrow’s 10-race card. A full field of runners is down to part.

Below, the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a close look at the runners and their chances of winning.

1. ALLEGIANCE: (5 ch h by Midnight Hawk – Princess Greeta) – Late runner who could come on strong in the latter stages of the race and grab a piece of the action.

2. MAGNIFICENT FORCE (USA): (5 dk b/br m by Cloud Computing – Cocktail Cruise) – Despite struggling in recent outings, Magnificent Force has the pedigree and ability to turn things around. She’s training well and could surprise.

3. FORTUNA BELLE (USA): (6 dk b/br m by Uncaptured – Double Seven) – With two solid local runs under her belt (third and fourth), Fortuna Belle is looking to make another strong performance.

4. CALIFORNIA CROWN: (6 b h by Lion Tamer – Blue Saphira) – Doesn’t have much to go on, form-wise. Tough to see a winning run here from California Crown.

5. SUPER ALEX: (6 ch h by Admiral Alex – Jamaican Pharoah) – Doesn’t seem to have much of a chance of winning this race.

6. THE GENERAL: (5 b h by Northern Giant – Mamma Blossom) – Is going to be left behind in this one.

7. HAIL THE QUEEN: (5 ch m by Hedge Fund – Seguro Oro) – Can safely be bypassed.

8. DON KWESI: (4 b c by Sensational Slam – Lookatmenow) – Is a consistent performer who’s been in top form. Don Kwesi has had two runs at this level, finishing third and second, respectively, and he’s been training well. He’s poised to deliver a winning effort.

9. BRENDA BOY: (5 b h by Savoy Stomp – Delightful Brenda) – Has been holding his own in his races. Brenda Boy is known for his late surges, which make him a contender. He could go home earning.

10. STRIKE SMART: (6 b h by Wannabeaplayer – Profile) – Unfortunately,
Strike Smart doesn’t have a realistic chance of winning.

11. HUNTSMAN: (6 ch h by Key to Power – Dream Point) – Could run well without actually winning. He’s a bit of a dark horse, but don’t count him out.

12. WHISKY: (7 b m by Savoy Stomp – Raise Your Voice) – A winner on last who is not expected to repeat.

13. COOKIE DAY N NIGHT: (6 ch h by Resurgence – Eloping Emma) – Is a bit of a wild card, showing up every now and then with good efforts. Cookie Day N Night could run good enough to earn a placing.

14. ANTARCTICA: (6 b h by Savoy Stomp – Jessie’s Favourite) – Is going to face tough competition and might struggle to make an impact.

15. SENSATIONAL SOUL: (4 ch h by Soul Warrior – Red God) – Has been working fairly well and deserves respect. Sensational Soul should not be denied a winning chance.

16. LINGUIST: (4 b f by Aveenu Malcainu – Bilingual) – last year’s Jamaica Oaks winner who makes her seasonal debut here. Linguist is in good form and training well, she could take home this trophy.
