Analysts point to social support as Jamaica’s standout strength. Ranked 24th globally in that category, the country continues to benefit from strong family ties, close-knit communities and resilient support systems that play a critical role in citizens’ day-to-day well-being, the report stated.
The report, which measures happiness based on a three-year average of self-reported life evaluations, also highlights areas where Jamaica faces ongoing challenges. These include freedom to make life choices, where the country ranks 50th, as well as healthy life expectancy at 76th and GDP per capita at 84th.
Perceptions of corruption remain a major concern, with Jamaica ranked 88th in that category, one of the lowest-performing indicators affecting its overall standing.
Observers say that continued gains will likely depend on strengthening economic opportunities, improving public health outcomes and addressing governance issues, while maintaining the strong social fabric that has helped drive the country’s recent progress.
