Cavalier hunt revenge against Mount Pleasant today
Defending champions Cavalier will be hoping to beat Mount Pleasant FA for the first time this season when they meet in a rescheduled Jamaica Premier League game today at Stadium East in Kingston at 4:00 pm.
The teams have developed one of the fiercest rivalries in local football, meeting in the last three finals, but second-placed Mount Pleasant have had the better of the misfiring sixth-placed Cavalier so far this season.
Also today, Treasure Beach will host Arnett Gardens at the St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) Sports Complex in Santa Cruz at 2:00 pm.
Mount Pleasant have won both games against Cavalier this season, 2-1 and 1-0, but have found points hard to come by, taking two points from their last three games, including a loss to last-placed Spanish Town Police.
Things have not been as smooth for Cavalier either, as they have won just two of their last five games, snapping a three-game losing skid with a win over relegation-zoned Molynes United on Sunday.
Raheem Edwards has emerged as Mount Pleasant’s most dependable goalscorer this season, despite the presence of Warner Brown, the league’s top scorer last season when he played for Arnett Gardens, and Daniel Green, who has scored just five goals.
Christopher Ainsworth leads Cavalier’s attack with nine goals so far.
At STETHS, the home team, Treasure Beach, will hope to continue their move away from the relegation zone after back-to-back draws against Arnett Gardens this season.
Treasure Beach, who are unbeaten in their last four games and were leading Tivoli Gardens 2-1 when their game was called off at half-time due to a waterlogged field, are in 11th place on 31 points, 10 points below eighth-placed Arnett Gardens.
Arnett Gardens are four points away from a top-six place, and a win today would take them past Phoenix Chapelton Maroons into seventh place, but they have managed just two goals in their last four games.
Treasure Beach are hoping to resume where they left off against Tivoli on Sunday as they seek to inch their way out of relegation danger.
