Cedricka Williams breaks Tennessee discus record
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Cedricka Williams broke the nearly 50-year-old University of Tennessee women’s discus throw record on Friday, after she won the event at the Tennessee Invite with a season’s best 60.57m, second best in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCAA) so far.
Williams, the former Holmwood Technical and Barton County College stand- out, broke the previous mark of 60.56m set by Jane Haist 49 years ago in 1977.
Williams got the mark in the second round.
At the Baylor Invitational, Skyler Franklin ran a Louisiana State University freshman record 22.99 seconds (0.7m/s) to finish third in the women’s 200m.
Kemba Nelson was sixth overall with 23.28 seconds (1.7m/s).
Former Cornwall College ISSA Champs finalist Zachary Cox of Boston University recorded two outdoor personal bests at the South Florida Invitational held in Tampa.
In his second outdoor collegiate meet, Cox won the men’s 200m in 20.98 seconds (1.4m/s), under his previous best 21.06 seconds, ninth best all-time at Boston College.
Earlier after running on the 4x100m relay team that was second with 40.49 seconds, he ran 10.36 seconds (1.2m/s) for fifth overall, second all-time at Boston University.
Former Jamaica College Champs gold medal winner J’Voughn Blake of Dartmouth, finished second in the men’s 800m in a season’s best 1:48.54 minutes.
It was his second race in almost a year since he competed in the NCAA East Regional in late May last year.
Fabrienne Foster of North Texas set two personal best marks at the 44 Farms Invitational at Texas A&M University. She was seventh in the hammer throw with 51.84m and also threw 48.87m for eighth in the discus throw.
