Falmouth seek revenge against Roaring River
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Falmouth United will hope to avenge their first round loss to Roaring River Football Club (FC) when they meet in a Zone B return round game in the Jamaica Football Championships at Llandilo Sports Complex on Saturday, starting at 3:30pm.
Roaring River won their first round game 2-1 under controversial circumstances, scoring a penalty in time added after Falmouth United were reduced to eight players.
It was the Westmoreland team’s first win of the season after back-to-back 1-1 draws and had kick started a run that saw them accumulate a further 17 points which moved them into second place.
Despite being five points behind Roaring River, Falmouth United have also improved their situation and are still in a position to make a run at back-to-back semi-final qualification.
Meanwhile, Zone A leaders Tru-Juice FC on 21 points and Sakka Club Browns Town on 20 points along with Zone B leaders Humble Lion FC will hope to extend their good runs on Saturday.
Tru-Juice FC had played out a 0-0 draw against Meadforest FC in the first round but the teams are separated by seven places and 13 points and Tru-Juice will start favourites to take all three points from today’s game.
If Tru-Juice should fail to get a win, it could leave the door open for second placed Sakka Club Brown’s Town to take over the lead when they take on WiFi United at Drax Hall.
Sakka Club won the first round game 3-0 but WiFi United are coming off a 4-1 win over Gray’s Inn last weekend.
Jamaica Defence Force could replace Lime Hall in third place if they can beat Gray’s Inn, as they would go to 19 points, one more than Lime Hall who are idle this round.
Humble Lion has set the pace in Zone B and they will be looking for a second win over St Bess United who are 12 points behind and have conceded 18 goals so far.
Humble Lion, who are seeking to return to the Premier League next season, have the best defence in the league so far, conceding just five goals while scoring 21 goals. They will be hoping Denzil Watson, Aaron Weir and Shawn Campbell will be able to lead them to yet another win.
Reno FC are in the race for a semi-final place for the first time in years and will travel to face Holland PYC at Lacovia Community Centre where they will hope to beat the St Elizabeth team for the second time this season.
