The Island Traffic Authority (ITA) is reporting that 71 people have been killed in 62 fatal crashes since the start of the year.

According to the ITA in its latest daily crash statistics released on Friday, fatalities decreased by 29 per cent  when compared to prior year while fatal crashes also decreased by 29 per cent when compared with the similar period in 2025.

The statistics show that motorcyclists account for 19 or 27 per cent of fatalities since the start of the year; private motor vehicle drivers account for 16 or 23 per cent of fatalities; pedestrians account for 15 or 21 per cent; private motor vehicle passengers account for 13 or 18 per cent; and pedalcyclists account for five or seven per cent of the road deaths since the start of the year.

Meanwhile, vulnerable road users made up of pedestrians, pedalcyclists, motorcyclists and pillion passengers account for 55 per cent of all fatalities combined since the start of the year.

Overall, passengers account for 21 per cent of all fatalities since January 1, while males and females account for 82 per cent and 18 per cent respectively of fatalities this year.
