Dream Catcher, We Jammin lay down gauntlet at Caymanas
DREAM Catcher and We Jammin have announced themselves as strong contenders for the upcoming Classic series of race with impressive wins at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Dream Catcher came from behind to take the Thornbird Stakes while We Jammin dominated the Prince Consort Stakes. These victories showcase their potential and set the stage for an exciting Classic series.
The Thornbird Stakes is confined to native-bred three-year-old fillies while the Prince Consort Stakes is for native-bred three-year-old colts and geldings. Both Graded Stakes races, run over seven furlongs (1,400m) with a purse of $1.75 million, are major prep races on the “Road to the Triple Crown”.
Trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Tevin Foster, Dream Catcher was well-positioned throughout the race, trailing stablemate Taylor Made (Robert Halledeen), Another Wow (Tajay Suckoo), and Victorious Links (Reyan Lewis) navigating the half-mile turn (800m). Dream Catcher then produced a powerful run in deep stretch to beat Another Wow by two and a half lengths in 1:27.2 minutes.
In the Prince Consort Stakes, We Jammin, trained by Peter-John Parsard and ridden by Omar Walker, sat behind Salute The Don (Dane Dawkins) for most of the way before taking over at the top of the lane. We Jammin turned on the afterburners in deep stretch and powered home to win by lengths. Dashallday (Tajay Suckoo) finished second ahead of Salute The Don in third place in a final time of 1:25.4.
We Jammin was the fourth winner on the day for Parsard. His other winners were The Maestro (Reyan Lewis) in the third race, Blu Sensation (Raddesh Roman) in the fourth race, and Turnonthelight (Roman) in the sixth race.
The action continues next weekend with races on Saturday and Sunday.
