Vernal Sage believes in ‘Good over evil’
Reggae artiste Vernal Sage (pronounced Sajay) is on a mission to inspire change, expressing confidence that his latest single, Good Over Evil, can uplift hearts and shift mindsets in Jamaica and beyond.
“The concept is mostly based on the decline of morality and human kindness in our society and this has created a disconnect which has given rise to societal ills like scamming and more and more criminality. Even governments are acting without love or concern for citizens of other nations, just take a look at what’s happening in the Middle East,” said Vernal Sage.
“Kids are being affected by the actions of us, the so-called adults who don’t show the love and care that they need. So it’s growing into a bad world, and this requires correction, because the world must be balanced by good. Hence, this is why I sing good over evil I pray.”
The song has already attracted a wide cross-section of support from disc jockeys like DJ Amber, Big A, Collision and Dj Bryan from IRIE FM. Other disc jocks such as Roderick Howell, Dalton Leith, and Richie B have also been supportive. Disc jocks on Connection Radio and Captain Kirk of Island Gold Radio have also shown support.
“The song was premiered at Weddy Weddy by Dwayne Pow and deejay Shawn 13 has been spinning it in the streets since its release, the feedback and support has been incredible,” an excited Vernal Sage said.
The singer was born in Westmoreland, and raised as the eldest of eight siblings. He attended Glenmuir High School and became a member of the school’s choir. He later moved to Rocky Point, Clarendon where he attended Clarendon College.
In early 1990, he recorded three songs under the Green T stage name. After graduating from University of Technology, he became an IT specialist and continued to juggle a corporate position with a music career, releasing several songs with Greensleeves Records. However, the demands of his job forced him to take a sabbatical from music until about 2010.
Over time, he became a close personal friend of Boris Gardener and later teamed up with him, and musician Donovan Downer from the Fab Five reggae band to resume his career in 2020.
Since that time, he has been working more diligently on his craft. Vernal Sage scored well with a radio hit single called ‘One Night Stand‘ that charted on ethnic regional charts in the USA.
