JFF gen-sec calls on J’cans to support Boyz and Girlz
General secretary of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Dennis Chung is urging Jamaicans to come out in their numbers to support the Reggae Boyz and Girlz in their upcoming international home matches.
The Boyz will play Honduras today in their Concacaf Nations League Group B match at the National Stadium starting at 8:10 pm.
The Jamaicans will then face Haiti in the same competition at the National Stadium next Tuesday.
The Girlz will then face Concacaf rivals Canada in first-leg tie of their two-game Olympic qualifier at the National Stadium on September 22. Both teams are playing for a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Chung said that home crowd support is vital for both teams because it will have help to push the players a lot harder on the field. He is also encouraging fans to go out and purchase their tickets and show their support for the national teams.
“It [home crowd] is very important, especially since a lot of people have been saying that the Boyz need the support and so this is time for people to come out and show their support,” said Chung.
“Buy the tickets and the jerseys which would have been sold online and come out and support the team because the team need the support, not just from a financial standpoint, but also crowd support and home support,” he said.
“We have always been asking for home matches and we are delivering three home matches this month, and so I would expect that people who are out there, and who have always been saying that more support is needed and more needs to be done, will come out in numbers and support and so that is our expectations,” Chung added.
He noted that kids under the age of 10 years old that are accompanied by an adult will enter the National Stadium free during these matches.
Chung also pointed out that the tickets prices are affordable because the JFF has not increased their prices to enter the National Stadium in almost three years.
“The ticket prices are affordable because we haven’t increased the prices for the tickets in about three or more years. The bleachers is $1,500, grandstand is $5,000 and the VIP is $7,000,” he said.
The veteran businessman also shared that these matches form a crucial part of the Reggae Boyz’ build-up to their World Cup qualifiers next year and will also serve as a qualifier for the Copa America Championships in 2024.
“This is actually thought to may be the most talented team ever and so it is a very good team and I think that they [the fans] are going to see some very good football,” Chung said.
“I think what the coach has been doing with team, I think is remarkable because [he] has been introducing some new players as we build up the Copa America and World Cup Qualifiers.
“The Nations Leagues matches are actually qualifying matches for the Copa America, so once we get through this, then we will be in a good position for the Copa America next year, which I think will be a significant achievement for us and so I will encourage everyone to come out and watch the team,” he added.
