Bullets allegedly found in shoe box; man gets bail
A St James man who pleaded not guilty to illegal possession of ammunition was granted bail when he appeared in the St James Parish Court on Friday.
Police had alleged that they found three bullets inside a shoe box during a search of 28-year-old Martin Brown’s home on February 20.
Brown’s attorney, Henry McCurdy, told the court that his client owns the house but stays with his girlfriend and rents out the room on a nightly basis to his friends.
“He went to the house because he had a serious feud with his girlfriend,” the lawyer explained.
McCurdy made a bail application on Brown’s behalf and he was granted $300,000 bail with up to two sureties on condition that he reports to a specific police station on specific days.
The matter is not ready for trial because the ballistic certificate and a police statement are still pending.
The case was rescheduled to be heard on April 25.
